Swindle BT-09

BT-09 Destron Supply Soldier Swindle
● Function: Supply Soldier
● Transformation: Jeep Wrangler TJ Custom
One of the first wave of evil Binaltech soldiers resurrected from the 'Bad Production Incident,' caused by the Destrons' takeover of the Binaltech Project. A specialist in black market trading and weapons manufacturing, he developed a modified Cosmic Rust tactical weapon and was responsible for triggering the Binaltech Project, which affected numerous Cybertron warriors. Although he appears to have a friendly and easy-going personality, he is actually an extremely greedy, self-centred opportunist. He added his own name to the top of the list of candidates to gain a Binaltech body, overriding the injured who should have been given priority.

Overview

Binaltech Swindle was leaked in July 2004 alongside BT-10 Grimlock and officially announced in September 2004. Swindle was released on the 11th November 2004 alongside the blue version of BT-06 Tracks for 4,980 Yen.

Swindle is packaged in vehicle mode and is a redeco of BT-04 Hound with a few added extras like the chromed bull bar. Sporting a very similar colour to his G1 appearance, Swindle is now a lighter "Solar Yellow". The vehicle mode is very detailed and like Hound has working suspension.

Packaged with the instruction booklet is a small leaflet which is a correction for page 7 of the instruction booklet. It merely points out is reads rotating Cybertron emblem when it should say Destron.

Transformation is identical to Hound and another difference is the remoulded robot head. Although blocky with a purple visor similar to Swindles original blocky head with purple eyes, it is clear this is not meant to be Swindle and it was written in the "System Description" within the instruction booklet hinting who the true owner should have been. It mentions "force barrier radiators" and "jamming transmission panels" which point towards Trailbreaker who never actually saw a release within the Binaltech series.

The robot mode is solid and posable for its time. The updated colour scheme and chromed parts make this stand out more than BT-04 Hound. The Swindle mould was later used for Alternators Rollbar, released in 2006 by Hasbro which was an update to the original 1987 Throttlebot.

JEEP WRANGLER
This model is a custom version of the Jeep Wrangler TJ open-top “Sport.” The body colour is an original Solar Yellow. The car embodies the rugged image of an off-road vehicle, with enhanced manoeuvrability achieved through larger tires, ensuring greater approach and departure angles as well as increased ground clearance.

DESTRON BT-09 SWINDLE
This is Swindle's updated form. A Supply Soldier and once a member of the Combatron combiner team, he has now gained the ability to transform into a Jeep Wrangler and operates independently. Infamously known as the 'One Robot Black Market,' this ruthless Destron soldier is notorious for betraying his wounded comrades without hesitation and has now joined the Binaltech battle!

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
Swindle's body frame was completed by seizing the BT-09 prototype, developed by Central City Technical University for Cybertron warriors, along with the entire project team, and forcing them to finish it. As a result, several functional terminals, including force barrier radiators and jamming transmission panels that are incompatible with his control system, remain offline.

His handheld Gyro gun disrupts the balance centre of all Transformers. Additionally, the engine-like units on both upper arms house the mechanism for its primary weapon, the Scatter Blaster. In vehicle mode, it can fire explosive shrapnel over a wide area from the front grille, while in robot mode, it can launch from both palms. Weapons used by the Binaltech TF are often supplied by the Earth Defense Command (EDC) Weapons Department once they are integrated into Cybertron City. Since Swindle fled just before the BT-09 operational test and was not equipped by the EDC, he crafted these special weapons himself using his own concealed supplies.

Due to the cancellation of their EDC registration, the Binaltech Destrons lost access to the recharge facilities for their 'Electrocells.' As a result, they replaced their power source with an “Exponential Generator,” a stabilised, low-power, and practical alternative.

BINALTECH STORY
Unveil the true depths of evil!

<From the communications log of Agent Faireborn>
"Based on our investigations so far, we have uncovered that the incident involving the Binaltech Project's regeneration of Destron soldiers was orchestrated by a clandestine human organisation known as “Concurrence”. They are a sinister social club united in their mission to dismantle the alliance between humanity and the Cybertrons. Their ranks include notorious terrorists like Count von Rani and General Krieger, as well as wealthy individuals such as the vengeful Lord Chumley and Sean Burger Jr., whose life has been devastated by the Transformers. It's absurd that they would align with the Destrons, but their ultimate goal appears to be the eradication of all Transformers and turn the solar system into a robot-free paradise. Those involved in Project Binaltech are not agents of Concurrence; they are merely victims of its brainwashing techniques. Please contact Ultra Magnus in Cybertron City immediately and inform him that we need to urgently locate and disable this brainwashing device. That's all for now. They're about to break down the door. Please let my family know that I'll be spending some time relaxing in the moon colony.”

Jeep Wrangler Vehicle Data
The Jeep Wrangler's mechanical design is based on the motto of “functionality and durability” which has been a tradition since the creation of the Jeep and helps it cope with rigorous off-road driving. The vehicle's body structure is very different from other passenger cars today. The drive system does not rely on electronic control, using a part time 4WD “command-trac” which has excellent durability and reliability due to its simple structure. The current TJ underwent full remodelling from the first “Wrangler” in 1997 and has since continued to evolve whilst keeping the traditions from the past 60 years. The suspension changed from the conventional leaf spring to a rigid coil to improve on-road comfort and its improved body shape increased its off-road performance.

HISTORY
The Wrangler is the legitimate successor to the legendary Jeep, the original lightweight off-road 4WD vehicle. The Jeep’s history dates back to the 1940’s during World War II. At that time the US Army were seeking an innovative scout vehicle with high off-road performance. Automobile manufacturers were given just 49 days to come up with a prototype. American Bantam, Willys Overland and Ford responded and in 1941 after various prototypes the “Willys MB / Ford GPW” were launched. More than 600,000 units of the Willys MB were produced and traversed a number of environments from African deserts, Russian mudlands and the jungles of Southeast Asia. The Allied General Commander Eisenhower called it one of the “decisive weapons that contributed the most to victory”. The Civilian CJ (Civilian Jeep) went into production in 1945 and had a long production run with many revisions. Mitsubishi Motors were licensed to produce the Jeep in Japan. The original Hound was modelled after this Mitsubishi Jeep CJ-59. In 1987, the Jeep was acquired by Chrysler, one of the top 3 US automobile manufacturers. Under new ownership it received many new modifications and the “Jeep Wrangler (YJ)” was born.

What’s “Jeep”?
“Jeep” is a registered trademark owned by DaimlerChrysler, yet today it seems to be a word to describe any small off-road 4WD vehicle. Originally called a “1/4 ton four wheel drive reconnaissance vehicle”, there are various theories as to how the first Willys MB became known as a Jeep. Some say it is named from the psychic dog which appeared in the “Popeye” comic strip, others say it is from the abbreviation of GP (Government + “P”, Ford's classification symbol for vehicles with an 80-inch wheelbase) which was printed on the body of the vehicle at the time. In 1950 it was registered as a trademark by Willys the manufacturer and it became its official name.
